Fairley's Finest MLD event was a huge success!
Fredericton District hosted it's first tournament in over a decade at Fairleys Sports Bar. Everyone there were thrilled at the newly renovated & expanded set up. They added more boards, new razor wire boards, electronic scoreboards.. Pretty much a fantastic set up to play darts at. The food was affordable and delicious and the beverages priced lower than most, we knew we were in for a good event. A snow storm hit overnight Saturday, and it did cause some players to avoid the trip.. But the registration actually grew on the day of the event.
Friday Night Blind Draw saw 44 players take to the line, an excellent start to the weekend. Saturday's events were no different, pretty much a full field mostly being local players, and they even came as far away as Newfoundland. Sunday's main event saw some spectacular darts thrown. Adam Stella (local player) won the Consolation, and had to be one of the surprise players of the event.
The first Semi Final featured Jeff Smith vs Stephen Bradley... Jeff taking this one in 6 legs & securing his spot in the final. Two boards over the other Semi taking place was Terry Fougere vs Kerry Way (Tournament Director & Local Ace) Terry powered his way into a commanding lead, but Kerry's determination brought him straight back into this match. Terry was able to hold on and win a very high quality match, securing his place in the Final in front of several spectators.
The Final Jeff Smith vs Terry Fougere. Terry found himself in his first Major Final, and his road there was a tough one. After his section play he found himself tied with soon to be Consolation winner Adam Stella, Adam had a dart to win this match. Unfortunately Terry ran out of steam for the Final as Jeff Smith was able to take the Best of 15 Match 8-1. Jeff also receives a paid entry to any of the 3 PDC North American Tour events.
